Public Citizen is a national, non-partisan, public interest group with over 500,000 members and activists across the country. The Congress Watch division conducts public education campaigns and advocates before the Congress and administrative agencies on issues like tax, financial regulation, and other equitable economy issues; open government; regulatory safeguards; tech accountability; public health and safety; and access to justice.

This is a one year grant contingent position. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Grassroots outreach: The Equitable Economy Advocacy Organizer will lead in achieving specific campaign deliverables to engage our grassroots base on tax fairness issues, primarily working with our activists, but also with coalition partners and other stakeholders, to engage them to lead neighbor-to-neighbor education events; speak out to decisionmakers, on social media, and with the press; and otherwise take action in their local communities. This includes making phone and video calls, sending emails, and other grassroots outreach strategies.
Online to offline activism - Help write and upload email messages and develop action pages to encourage members to engage with Congress Watch campaigns. Work with the organizations’ digital and grassroots organizing teams to expand our Congress Watch activist base and enhance activist engagement in both offline and online events.
Ally outreach - Work with existing and new coalition partners to amplify and expand national, state, and local campaign efforts. Identify and perform outreach to affinity groups like faith based and anti-poverty organizations to coordinate on public education and advocacy tactics.
Website content - Update and develop content for the Public Citizen website, including drafting blogs.
Social media - Engage with social media for the Congress Watch campaigns, including working with Public Citizen’s communications team to develop videos, images, and similar content.
Proactive media work – Work with the Communications department and Congress Watch team to draft letter-to-the-editor templates for activists, press releases, op-eds, and short statements, assisting with pitching at the state and local level when appropriate, prepping and training coalition partners and activists, or otherwise engaging with the media in furtherance of Congress Watch campaigns.
Assessment and reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of organizing outreach, activist engagement, and achievement of specific campaign deliverables. Use data to reassess outreach tactics as needed to ensure effectiveness and progress toward stated goals. Work with Congress Watch leadership, Public Citizen’s Development team, and Co-Presidents to contribute content to grant reports and similar materials.
